Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America (FOCA) distributes Christmas Gifts to Married Seminarians and their Families - 12/06/07

On Thursday, December 6, the Feast of St. Nicholas, The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America (FOCA) delivered Christmas gifts to over 30 Seminary families through their St. Nicholas Project.

Under the leadership of Allison Steffaro, the St. Nicholas Project requests wish lists from Seminarian Families to provide needed support during the Christmas season.  It was started as a local endeavor by parishes within the New Jersey District. This year the FOCA has embraced the project on a national level with parishes from all over the country participating.  Items from the families' wish lists ranged from gift cards (to local grocery, gas stations and other stores), needed clothing or household goods, school supplies for the seminarians, and of course, gifts that the children would like to see under their tree on Christmas.

This project is just one of the ways in which FOCA supports the seminaries of the Orthodox Church in America.  Their Adopt-a-Seminarian Program provides financial aid to seminarian families on a monthly basis, and numerous FOCA seminary scholarships are also available.  This year, under the leadership of president, Michael Steffaro, the FOCA has also undertaken a multi-million dollar fundraising project to build Married Student Housing at St. Tikhon's Seminary.

All of these projects are designed to relieve some of the financial burden placed on students while in seminary. In this way, the FOCA sets out to recognize the sacrifice of the future spiritual leaders of our Orthodox Church.

With grateful hearts, St. Tikhon's Seminary thanks the FOCA and all the participating parishes for this wonderful outpouring of love from our Orthodox community!
