St. Tikhon’s Seminary Hosts 2026 Summer Dinner and OCPM Award Presentation

Glory to God! On August 27, St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary welcomed friends from Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM) for the 2026 Summer Dinner and presentation of the inaugural Fr. Duane Pederson Outstanding Service Award to Mitered Archpriest John Kowalczyk and Archpriest Stephen Powley. The evening of fellowship and celebration also welcomed seminarians back to campus for the new academic year.

The award, named for Fr. Duane Pederson, honors two men whose experience and service have played an important role in OCPM’s ministry. Fr. John and Fr. Stephen have been involved with OCPM since its founding, contributing their extensive experience in prison ministry to the organization’s work.

Over the years, both priests have served OCPM in a variety of capacities, including as members of its Board of Trustees and staff, while continuing their personal ministries. They have also shared their knowledge and experience through teaching, training, and speaking, helping prepare others for work in prison ministry.

The celebration was attended by family and friends, representatives of the Boards of Trustees of St. Tikhon’s Seminary and OCPM, and SCI Waymart Superintendent Reed Davy.

At St. Tikhon’s Seminary, Fr. John brings his experience in prison ministry to the formation of seminarians. Prison ministry is part of the seminary’s Field Education program, which includes opportunities to serve at SCI Waymart.

St. Tikhon’s Seminary congratulates Fr. John and Fr. Stephen on receiving the inaugural Fr. Duane Pederson Outstanding Service Award and gives thanks for their service to Orthodox prison ministry.
