St. Tikhon's Seminary News and Media Student Stories: Seminarian Zaccheaus Resz headshot.

Zacchaeus Resz is a second-year seminarian at St. Tikhon’s Seminary and a member of the Class of 2027. He was born and raised in rural western Colorado. He earned his bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. After graduating, he returned to Colorado and, following a gap year, completed two years of graduate work in Philosophy at the University of Colorado Boulder.

During his gap year, Zacchaeus was received into the Orthodox Church through baptism at St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Delta, Colorado (OCA Diocese of the West), the parish that later sent him to St. Tikhon’s.

After his time at the University of Colorado Boulder, Zacchaeus worked for three years, primarily at a retirement home, an experience that proved invaluable by giving him a deeper familiarity with death and grieving. All of his work experiences, including McDonald's, FedEx, serving as a teaching assistant, and especially his time at the retirement home, taught him how much he values human interaction and desires to serve people.

Speaking on his path to seminary, Zacchaeus says that, with the encouragement of his parish priest and the support of his family, fellow parishioners, and clergy, he decided to pursue seminary. He views this journey as a lesson in faith and gratitude and hopes to serve the Church faithfully for as many years as God gives him.

When asked what he loves about St. Tikhon's, Zacchaeus says:

While I have learned a good deal in class, access to daily Church services at the monastery has been of particular benefit in teaching me how to be a Christian.
