St. Tikhon's Celebrates Alumni Homecoming as New Academic Year Begins

Seminary Alumni Gather at St. Tikhon's

On Thursday, September 10th, Alumni gathered together at St. Tikhon's.  In the course of the day alumni joined the seminary community for lunch, held a meeting in the afternoon, celebrated Vespers at the Monastery Church, and then hosted a picnic for the seminary community.

Fr. Patrick Burns, new Alumni President, welcomed all the alumni who came together.  He especially thanked Archpriest Theodore Boback for his service as Alumni President for the past nine years!  Together with Archpriest Stephen Evanina, Vice President, Archpriest Nicholas Wyslutsky, Treasurer, and Archpriest Andrew Nelko, Secretary, alumni discussed how they could strengthen ties among alumni, and again between alumni and current seminarians as mentors and guides.

Alumni received greetings from Archimandrite Sergius, Igumen of St. Tikhon's Monastery and seminaryAlumn.  They also heard a report on seminary life in the new academic year from Archpriest Steven Voytovich, Dean,  and an update on current fundraising projects, including married student housing, by Seraphim Danckaert, Director of Mission Advancement.

Following the meeting, Archpriest Theodore Boback celebrated a memorial service in the Monastery Church for Archpriest Vladimir Borichevsky, in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of his repose.  Alumni joined current mission choir members for the rare opportunity to sing under the direction of Archimandrite Sergius for Vespers!  His Eminence Mark, Archbishop of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania came to the Monastery Church, and blessed the food for the picnic following.

Alumni leadership served a picnic dinner to members of the seminary community.  Those gathered were treated to music by Dr. Harry and the Dogmatics.  Later, Fr. Patrick facilitated a brief program of sharing by alumni to those just beginning their studies in the new year.

All in all this was truly a day of fellowship with our alumni.  We are most grateful that they have taken time from their full schedules as parish pastors, some driving over six hours to participate in the days events, and we hope to build on the momentum of this day in the weeks and months ahead!
